Topic: Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP 24" Widescreen LCD   Go to last post

Did you get a chance to hook it up to a ps3 or a 360, if so how did it scale? With the HDMI it would be a good second screen for that but i've heard about some problems with other 24" displays when it comes to that.

Thanks,

Well here is a quick check list that i can think of off hand in no particular order

I assume nothing is overheating?

are you getting any beeps from the mobo?

you installed the mobo correctly with the stand offs to it's not shorting out right?

What components are you using? is your psu big enough and did you plug in the extra power for the vid card (assuming it has one)?

if you can get into windows in safe mode try installing a different version of the vid card driver, although i doubt this is the problem since it happens before you even boot into windows sometimes.

Maybe you have to update the bios to support the card.

What does the bios say when you boot up? does it recognize all your components as it should? ie cpu type, ram speed, hdd, etc...?

Have you tried running with the bare minimal, ie cpu, one stick of ram and vid card, mouse and keyboard?

Let us know those and then we'll go from there.

I'd swap out the CPU next, the celery with its lack of cache and a few of the other missing parts is really hurting your performance more then anything else now that you added the ram. Your gpu is still fairly good and should be able to run most games no problem once you put in an new cpu. Wait for a sale or look at ebay for a used one if cash is tight.

Hope that helps

i like contests, the folding ones are always good because it at least promotes something useful to others (not that gaming ones are bad, you need to have fun too) I'll have to switch back to xp if that happens though as Vista doesn't like sending half of the WU's that i finish to the FAH servers so i stopped again :(

I'll try and pick up my posting and banner clicking to help you out Davo contest of no contest as this site has helped me out in the past, and i don't need anything in return.

If you're moving to Canada you shouldn't have to pay duty on your personal belongings, i think duty really only applies when you visit the states and then come back to Canada or you have something shipped into Canada. Here is the link to Canada Customs, hopefully that will help you find out all the info you need to know to move up here.

If she has some empty drive bays try taking those out or see if the whole front cover can come off and then maybe you can reach in and install the extra ram.

As for vista i'm running ultimate and at first i only had a gig and it was ridiculously slow, i'm up to two now and it works great.

Well i installed 32 today, not too bad, but man is it ever a ram hog, it hovers around 80% that's ridiculous, i suppose i'll just have to go out and buy some more ram then [:^)]

That's pretty much what i figured the experience would be, and since i leave my computer on 24/7 (folding) stability is important, so i think i'll start off with 32 and see how that goes.

Thanks for the input guys i appreciate it.
