well the PC is built/2.6GHz Celeron D[331]/400watt psu[PCPower&Cooling]/512MB KINGSTON HYPER-X RAM/WesternDigital[80GB]SerialSATA SE HDD/I added an old Sound Card and its IEEE1394/and a OLD MODEM{conexant]/and aOLD Toshiba PATA[ide]Combo Drive{optical}DASH Format DVD-Burner/an extra COOLING Fan for the interior[chassis]-60CFM/XP-Pro[FullVersion]/
..
The INTEL D915GAGL Motherboard..useing Realtek Integrated Audio..
..
I still need another KINGSTON RAM Module to have TOTAL RAM=1-GB..
and a better DVD-ROM/RW..the Toshiba is only a DASH-format..I want to add Serial SATA..
so a second BURNER will be installed..the TOSHIBA is a excelent DVD-ROM Drive..its a "screamer" on Installs..
..
I've been doing TEST-drives for about three days now and NOT one problem..
..
I had a Chrome Stand-off touching the rear of the Mobo at the original install..the Monitor would NOT come out of Stand-by..
Intel Support had me re-do the Mobo..the PC started immeadiately..
..
The PC Power & Cooling Silencer 470[400watt]..tends to warm up the Chassis Interior..I went to Home DEPOT and purchased some STICKY-one-side-Insulation..called PIPE WRAP Insulation tape..2-inches wide..I placed some of this on the Base of the Psu/..seems to help the operation..
..
This PC runs great..I may not but myself thru the aggravation again..but did need to use the DELL Dimension 2350 case..I paid about $700.00 w/the REBATE..and must have spent another $$500.00 over the next 5-years it ran..like $$1200.00-easy..
..
So now its another $$400-dollars..that's like $$1600.00/the PC is flawless at the moment..
I'm giving credit to the New OS a FULL VERSION XP-Pro..$$279.00
..
Its still a matter of Power management..I'd rather say nothing concerning this because of the risks..
But a performance was created from the initial Start-UP..leaveing some things behind..getting down to BASICS seems the RULE of a Celeron D..
..
TIME-will-TELL.

Hate to break-IN on the discussion but a BENT PIN is a definite No-Go on your project..
I'm doing my first PC-rebuild..
It was a ONE HOUR ordeal for sure..the INTEL Motherboard fit perfectly into the DELL 2350 Dimension Tower..I started useing a TAPE-MEASURE....since DELL Support was unable to help in any way..so a OUTSIDE DIMENSION was caught at 9.6 x 9.6 useing the Tape Measure..
Then the INTEL-website started a process to get a Mobo and Processor..I added the RAM from the KINGSTON-website..
PC Power & Cooling had a PSU but I needed more....they had that too..the SILENCER 470...
The INTEL Mobo was offering a SATA configuration for DRIVES....it was a Pentium Board...I want a Celeron D Processor....I found a Celeron D 331(2.66GHz)....for the D915GAGL Intel Motherboard....
everthing went very well at installation time...the confusion for me was the Front Panel Power Switch/I found a PC-Repair Manual to describe such a switch(Author=Morris Rosenthal)..but I still needed to RE-Assign the PINS and come up with a Header CONNECTOR that would PLUG into the Motherboard side..the CHIPSET configuration offered this solution for searching out a SWITCH..
............................SOOOooooo........so far....
I'm still waiting to FIRE-up this PC REBUILD...
But all things went well with this set of circumstances...
........................................................................................................................................................
DELL PC Tower....DIMENSION(2350)
9.6 x 9.6 outside dimensions of the motherboard(ATX)all the way..
PC Power & Cooling because of the DELL Tower(PSU)bolted right into the case..
I switched to a Celeron over a Pentium(saved)like $$200-dollars..
XP-Professional because a LAN will offer the best results(in therory)..
Intel Retail BOXED Motherboard D915GAGL....
CELERON D-331-2.66GHz....
RAM...Kingston/KHX2700/512....times/2 for a TOTAL RAM=1-GB(approx)..
PC Power & Coling SILENCER 470...
SATA DRIVES....Firewire.....LAN.....Modem(cheap)....
INTEL CD....Drivers and Software.....
(optional)a SWITCH/////from a DELL 4700-Dimension....(for the Connector)Header..
re-assign the PINS....useing the INTEL Schematic,,,,,,,,
EXTRA---functions are a INTRUDER ALARM....and a third FAN connection.....
........................................................................................................................................................
I'll let ya' all know.......when it starts-UP......
........................................................................................................................................................

I'm in the middle of my first PC-build..and I'm useing a Mobo that will allow a Celeron D Proceesor..but this Mobo is a Pentium Board(D915GAGL)..
I was thinking Pentium....and it was coming in at $$290-dollars..
A CELERON D was $$70-dollars...useing the same Motherboard....drives are SATA....
I need XP-Professional....
The Pentium will go as high as 3.2 GHz...asking for 4-GB's of RAM....
also SATA-drives....needing like 400-watts minimum POWER....Supply....
But actually you will need a PSU=600-700 WATTS....
........................................................................................................................................................
I think this is where we reach for the NETWORK of having like---->>3-Desktops.....1-LAPTOP....
........................................................................................................................................................
I consider the TASK-->>too never END....
........................................................................................................................................................
I'm going to wind up in a FLAT CABLE "straight jacket"....
........................................................................................................................................................
I'm considering a 4-PC Network....one LAPTOP.....
........................................................................................................................................................Desktops....I might want one PENTIUM Processor....like 2.8 GHz.....1-GB-RAM....in all the Desktops....External HDD's....
........................................................................................................................................................
Gaming is the very High END of POWER.....
I do my photography at a modest level.....DVD-creation....
somewhere just above Audio.....CD-MP3-WMV(export)....
........................................................................................................................................................
The Re-Install is my salvation for ther NEXT-project....
..............................................................................if you GOT-the MONEY.....Do-It.

I'm getting some idea about how a Processor might be a valuable addition in the High Cost range..
versus..
A lower cost Processor..
OK..the Pentium Processor requirement..
and now the CELERON D Proceessor at a very low cost...
............where the CPU might be adding VALUE is P-r-o-d-u-c-t-i-v-i-t-y.....the quickly moving PC-operator.......
the CELERON D seems to need a m-o-m-e-n-t....But gets the JOB d-o-n-e........
I quess I'm referring to Media Creation......how many times have you had to look at your HDD-indicator light.....Right now I'm dropping the Pentium for Celeron D./....
a Pentium can run like $$290-dollars.....a Celeron D like $$70-dollars......
The differance----->seems to be wait time.....useing your ERROR Report to issue a STALL in the next operation.....just slowing down a "bit"/
allows for the Celeron D.......
I remember useing a Pentium 1.8.....GHz......
and now a Celeron D.....2.5......GHz.....
The differance is the ERROR REPORT.....the 1.8GHz P-4 just held the "mark" on the program.....
the Celeron D offers an ERROR Report.....but I do move on w/my PROJECT regardless.....
So far I'm waiting to move on to a Intel Mobo....D915GAGL....w/Celeron D 331(2.66)GHz....its a REBUILD of that old 1.8 HGz P-4....an OLD DELL Tower(2350-Dimension)/I killed it w/the DEFRAG-program FORCED Shut-Down.....it POPPED the Retainer for the Heat-sink....it needed to be REBUILT....
The P-4 was very much a smooth OPERATOR...today I'm useing a Celeron D(2.5)GHz....I get the same END-game.....
Its just that the PENTIUM offers the "wait" TIME rather than the CELERON D--->>ERROR REPORT....that requires some "stall" in the project procedure....CONCERNING DVD-writing....Projects....DV-avi...rendering....editing......mpeg-2 format Burning....
I think I can use a CELERON D.....but might want to have a Pentium in my LAN....
...............ERROR REPORT.

Ya' know FOLKS....I will usually never have a PC problem...I run real good...I buy the DELL Desktops....I run a WINDOWS XP OS...my PC is ON most times.....I tend to be the one in a SLEEP-mode.....
........................................................................................................................................................
Since this is a Electronics package it tends to HIDE-alot......that is why you need to have some TEST-equipment....
If you do not have a Multi-Tester I would say your not paying attention.....
......The above POST seems to have no idea whats-what......
........................................................................................................................................................
I would suggest that when working w/Wire harnesses....its best to look at your PLUG-ends.....and be assured that a Match is present.....
I lift weights///.....I'm 5-ft 10-inches and usually 200-LBS when I'm starving......and there are times that I can't seem to SEAT a PLUG-end into its SOCKET....but a REVIEW does catch this problem.....
The other is BENT-PINS.....I have never bent a PIN......so your on your own there.

The Power Supply must be compatible w/the Motherboard.....not....the CPU....
The Power Supply has Connectors....
....2 x 12.......2 x 10......2 x 2.......Serial ATA.......Mini Drive......Drive Connectors.....
....then you may recieve some adapters in the Power Supply BOX......
.........................................................................................................................
a Motherboard that is a Gaming PC needs lots of WATTAGE....500 WATTS or more.....
your Celeron D may or may NOT be able to RUN Games.....I would suggest the Pentium....
for GAMERS....and RAM for GAMERS.....1-GB of RAM is like MiniMuM.....
..........................................................................................................................
Get a quality PC Power Supply.....somewhere around 100-dollars.....is considered moderately priced.

What you might want to try is a CLEAN install....of the Windows ME...add your Programs and you may need to change some Software because OF the UPGRADE....add your Internet CD and MODEM....add your Security Software....Update the ME(however)that is done.....now.....use the XP-Upgrade CD.....
............Question...........is the Upgrade CD a SP1 or an SP2....upgrade???
..........................................................................................................
Personally.....the Upgrade CD is priced beautifully.....
But I will never buy one again.....
I will purchase the Complete OS CD.

Motherboard/CPU/RAM/Power Supply/...????
...............................................................I went w/Intel..
...............................................................KINGSTON RAM..
...............................................................PC Power & Cooling(Power Supply)..
I am useing an old DELL Dimension PC Case....a D915GAGL Mobo mounted exactly....
The Power Supply was a SILENCER 470....400+WATTS.....
The CPU..a CELERON D(331).....
The RAM Module a DDR...PC2700(512MB)....I'll purchase a second Module along the way......
I'll add in the SATA-HDD....and I need to purchase a OS(XP-Pro)....
I already had my TOSHIBA DVD-combo Drive....
...............................................................So now I have an EMPTY BAY........
I need a NEW USB 2.0(FRONT)...I need a Front Panel Power Switch....
.................................................................................................................
The PC is built its sitting here as I SEARCH for my Power Switch////HELP!!!!!!!!!

I'm doing my first PC-build..what I did was to start slow..since there are so many "systems" inside the CASE/I just managed the COMPATIBILTY of the parts first..
A MOTHERBOARD and PROCESSOR selection was first........looking for my needs and prices are good anyway..I went w/the INTEL Brand...a BOXED Retail D915GAGL...which is a Pentium CPU board..but I switched to the New CPU...Celeron D(331).....because of its low price.....
Then the RAM....a Celeron D uses PC2700 DDR...RAM.....I went to the KINGSTON website for a selection....but only purchased the ONE-module....will get the second one when farther along on the BUILD....
I'm useing an OLD-PC-CASE.....a DELL Dimension 2350...it was my first PC...it was a Pentium 4 CPU...
So its fitted nicely with this NEW Board...and a POWER Supply from PC Power and COOLING....I stepped up the Power Supply for the new board....the DELL Case is kind on Part Numbers(PSU)....so a SILENCER 470....400+WATTS.....I'm not a GAMER...just a Digital Photography DVD-writer....
SOOOooo.........I did not purchase a SATA-drive....or a Operateing System.....or that second RAM-module.....and I had an old PC Case....and a TOSHIBA DVD-combo DRIVE to swap over to the new board.....that gives me a CD-ROM/FLOPPY Drive(to stash)in the closet.....
Now here's the PROBLEM.../////so far/////.....the FRONT PANEL Power SWITCH.....from my experiance is a MUST....
And the DELL Front Panel Power Switch has COLOR CODES not given in the INTEL Motherboard.....spec. sheet.....of course the LED's have your standard configuration....easy to see...or TEST....
How-ever......the SWITCH...which has two wires need some sort of explanation.....since a PIN-reassignment must be made to MATCH the INTEL Motherboard HEADER....>>needs a schematic VIEW of the DELL Switch(there is none).....
So...I'm actually stuck at this time on two wires for the MoBO-HEADER.....that's why I'm OUT-here...looking for ANSWERS...or PRODUCTS to CONNECT a Power Switch(ON/OFF)....
The Bare Bones seem alot LESS...compared to what I can build....and this is a real BUMMER...looking for a DARN-ON/OFF Sw......if there is a Product for the Front Control panel that POWERS-UP the PC with this Mobo...D915GAGL....I really need it...to continue....
I'll figure out something.
