Topic: CPU Upgrade   Go to last post

It will be worth every penny, believe me. I too upgraded from 630 to 945 in october(Newegg had it for $155 at that time !! + I sold 630 for $120 on Ebay ). The difference is noticable in every aspect, surfing to gaming everything's faster. It typically produces 10 to 15 more degrees of heat so be prepared for that...

Pentium D needs atleast Intel's 945 chiset, there is no other constraint...

Runs hot though... with my ninja630 would run just under 50 without any fan. This one runs just under 65 without fan. I put the Fan on the Ninja and now getting arounf 57 at idel and around 70 at 80% load... Man its hot...

I think its just the next step in evolution... These days hardware is changing too fast... DDR2 has been around for around 1.5 years and stay the leader for the next 6 - 9 months, thats like more than two year. When I say leader I mean, and as you mentioned it has a very "Little advantage" over DDR but the point is - it still "HAS A ADVANTAGE". So from DDR you go to DDR2, stay around for 2 - 2.5 years then you get DDR3... a perfect evolutionary process... Just because the loosers at AMD coundnt embrace it does not mean that it was not a good technology. They just didnt have resources to move to DDR2... And then, DDR3 will be here soon but DDR2 will still stay around for another 1 or 2 years... PC manufacturers dont move to all new tech PCs that soon...

RDRAM or Rambus would be a tech that was shortlived or was a flop, not DDR2. 184 PIN DDRs would have had a short life too if the AMD ppl had it in them and moved to DDR2. Its life span was increased by AMD's failure.

I have a Intel Intel D945GNTL which supports 667 DIMMs but nowhere on the Intel's website does it say anything about 5400 DIMM. I know that all 667 supporting mobos will support both 5300 and 5400 but I read somewhere if a mobo is not equiped to handle 5400 then it runs ar 333 MHz or something...

How do I know if my mobo can handle 5400 ... any ideas ...

Fits pretty well... its huge and fins are very thin so you want to be carefull, there is till some room to spare even on the PSU side. Just had to tuck in the wires... Sonata has a air duct which seemed pretty useless, that had to be thrown out.

Ninja is awsome no question about. Lives up to its reputation. but it does need a fan. I am using Scythe 120mm 800 rpm one, it does the job and is noiseless. I have put the silverstone one to cool the HDDs. My case is SonataII. Its a nice case. No complaints.
It has 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 PSU and thats is the one I plan to replce...
