Topic: Looking to buy a Modem/wireless router   Go to last post
Posted: Friday, July 4, 2014 4:02:27 PM(UTC)

Currently i'm using comcast xfinity modem/wireless router. I really don't know much about modem/wireless routers.

My pc is hard wire to the modem, but i use the wireless for my cell

phone and streaming netflix and my roommate has his phone and tablets

connected to it as well.

The wireless part is ok, but it doesn't have much range.

Instead of paying comcast to rent a modem i would like to buy my own.

But i'm also not looking to spend and arm and a leg for one.

Maybe something in the range $100 to maybe $150.

I would like it last for a while so that i can get my monies worth and

hopefully it won't go crap on me in a YR. Easy to use and has the bells

and whistles for it's price, dependable etc.

I'm looking to buy on amazon cause i have gift cards and i don't have to use my money

No. On my new build that's the only ssd i have.

I was running malwarebytes and microsoft defender that came with win 8.1 pro.

Like i said, this is odd that it didn't get rid of it when i reformatted my pc. It should of erased everything.

I don't know if because when i install win 8.1, they want me to use my hotmail account. But i don't think that should still cause the problem.

I did reinstalled or reformatted it again.

The first time my browser was hijacked, it was called conduit. The second time it was called mysearchdial. I did a google search and it showed how to get rid of it. I followed the steps and it seemed to work.

But i'm still worried if it's there running behind the scenes or something.

I wanted to make sure that i did a complete wipe of my ssd and start over.

I do i have mcafee enterprise + antispyware 8.8.
Just curious if there is something better.

ok well it seems I need something cause my toolbar is getting hi jacked. (ms 8.1 prod)

The first time this happened is when I wanted to dl a image resizer. I went cnet. apparently my toolbar from firefox was hi jacked. I had the default setting for google. But after I dl the image resizer and I opened up my FF browser something was on their. It looked similar but with out the google name. My malwarebytes was blocking it. I guess ads and what not.

So I reformatted my ssd and it erased the problem.

So the second time I used IE. This time I typed in image resizer for mircosoft. So again I thought it was ok, but nope it was hi jacked again in IE. The first one was called conduit something that was on FF and this time on my IE browser it called mysearchdial.

I reformatted again, but this time it didn't get rid of it??? It worked when I reformatted my pc when FF was infected but not with IE. I reformatted 3 times with no success???

I manually removed it but I want it removed by reformatting so that way I know it's completely gone. Starting fresh sort of speak.

Any Ideas why this is happening? Is this something I need to be worried about?

On my old pc with winXP pro from yrs ago, this hasn't happen to me before. I've dl a mircosoft image resizer and my IE or FF wasn't hi jacked.

This is frustrating for sure.

Topic: Cable modem with wireless router   Go to last post

Ok i just switched from AT&T U-verse to Direct TV. I will also

cancel my att internet as well. So i'm looking to go with comcast

xfinity internet.

But instead of them charging me (I think) $6 dollars a month to rent their cable/wireless modem, i rather buy my own.

Now is it better to buy a cable modem that has built in wireless router

or get them separately? I need a wireless router that will handle HD

content with no problems ( a must) and universal with other cable or

dish providers.

Now i don't know a lot about wireless routers or cable modems. But I

would like to have some of the latest technologies, a good security

(WPA/WPA2/PSK) and WEP.

I don't want to spend an arm and leg to buy one but i also don't want to

buy something that is crap. Need something that will hold its own and

not become a dinosaur after a yr or 2.

I prefer to have a modem that has a built in wireless router instead

having 2 separate units. I assume it be more expensive to buy them

separately.

I plan on buying the modem on amazon since i have a gift card. But if

there is a better deal else wear say best buy then i will drop my credit

card if need b.

I live in norcal (central area).

Any advise would be helpful

Thanks.

Topic: Looking into buying a laptop. Need some suggestions plz!   Go to last post

Well i was going to go ahead and upgrade and get a new PC set up. But i have since changed my mind and looking into getting a laptop (probably will still get a PC built maybe sometime this year).

I'm looking into the up to $600 price range (well try to stay below that if possible [;)] ).

I will most likely just use it to browse the net but also play some games as well.  Any ideas of what brand of laptops you guys can recommend me? Screen size 15inch or larger.

I was also wondering if i do go this route and buy a laptop how easy is it to upgrade the memory and switch to an SSD drive instead of using the HDD? Or get a laptop that has an ssd drive. I don't plan on storing tons of music or movies on my laptop, so i don't need a 1trillion bite hard drive =P.

A good battery life would be nice. I will be buying the laptop on amazon because well i have gift cards from that company.

Thanks,

IaimToMisbehave you know [:P]

HOw long have you had the closed loop coolers? Do they work well? Are they fairly quite?

I've read that enermax has gotten into cpu cooling air/water cooling. Any ideas how good they are compared to Corsair and other brands?
