No, if you get a good internal or external HDD, it leaves you options for the future.

If you are getting one JUST for backups... then a NAS is fine.
But for $53 gets you a WD Blue from amazon 7200 RPM 2-year warranty

I was wrong on that quote. It is still better to have a normal drive though as you want it to be fast probably.
