It appears that Apple has high expectations for the Apple Watch if rumors are to believed. According to Taiwan-based web publication Digitimes, Apple has ordered enough chips to produce around 30 to 40 million units of its first ever smartwatch.

According to unnamed industry sources, the website also claimed that the Apple Watch is set to debut in early 2015. While Apple has said that the smartwatch would launch in 2015, it has never said anything more specific than that. However, rumors have also been circulating that Apple is looking to release its smartwatch as soon as possible.

The chip being ordered, that Apple will be utilizing for its product, is an advanced system-in-package (SiP) technology capable of incorporating an entire computing system into one chip. It is a custom designed S1 SiP that is able to stack and integrate multiple subsystems into a small enough area that makes it capable of conforming to a smartwatch's small footprint.

But Apple is still keeping quiet on the many of the details. Especially when it comes to the prices for the various versions of the Apple Watch. However, it is assumed that the aluminum version will retail for the introductory price of $349, the stainless steel version for about $500, and, for those wishing to purchase a more bling-worthy Apple Watch can, presumably, spend around $4,000-$5,000 for the 18k gold version.

sounds like they are going to have 25-35 million unsold apple watches laying around after the total failure of the device. I expect no more than 5 million watches sold before everyone realizes it is a useless piece of ripoff.

Stamp an apple on the back. Sheep will flock to it.
