Wouldn't we all? :P
Does anyone know what they really do to decide the winner? This is all actually a big ruse. They're trying to find out who's actually really active and who just posted for the giveaway. :P
i think they sift through all the members, check to see who has been active, add them to a list, then randomly draw. Thats just a guess but seems like it would be the most fair.
"2) Be active in news and article discussions and in the forum here at HotHardware.com to get noticed. But don't spam! One word posts won't count for much."
leads me to believe there is more to it than just that. I'd be curious to hear how they actually decide. It almost sounds like it might be weighted in some way. I'm not sure.
and this is probably the main reason it takes so long..
(all the new members + the current members) / (Start Date A - End Date ) * Pi / (Usefulness - spam) = Actual Level of Notice
Exactly, I'd imagine it would take a while. There was probably 300+ entries judging by the comments. Not really sure what is considered active whether it is 10 posts are 1,000 posts. I do love the points thing though and how it shows you how you are ranked compared to others on the website.
Huh. I didn't realize that there was a point thing. That's interesting. I should really pay more attention to the little things.
And Static, I'm not complaining about how long it's taking. I'm just genuinely curious as to how they determine it. I like understanding algorithms and reasoning. That being said, I can only assume there has to be something semi-complex if they're gonna use just a straight algorithm.
I understand what you mean, but I doubt that it is very complex. They just have to make sure people who only posted once or twice to enter the giveaway don't win rather than someone who is active. From there I think they just draw the winner from the active users who entered.
I knew when I entered there was zero chance for me to win this. I dont have the expertise or knowledge they want to be added to these forums. Adding pure "fluff" comments is also a useless action
There are Points??
True, and if you think about it almost every post in this thread is a "fluff" comment. It's just fun to vent how excited we are with others. That's what I like about this site. It's not all straight up facts all the time. There is a ton of information and it's easy to get help don't get me wrong, but you can also just leave your opinion on Articles even if you aren't a complete expert on the topic. :/
Says the person with 100k points. xD
Yeah, no flamers here to ridicule someone who doesn't know everything about any given topic.
Honest questions are met with honest answers, and you can learn a lot here over time.
To be honest, I learn a lot just from reading people's questions.
So remember that there is no such thing as a stupid question here.
(there are points!?)
you dont need to be an expert.. just give opinions... Just read some of the new articles and throw your opinion on there. Agree? no? dont care?
also.. you can always learn stuff :)
Patience is the answer guys its veryyyyy difficult but we must wait until Lord Marco/Davey decides xD
