Anyone heard any more word on this platform. Other than nvidia now supporting SLI I was wondering if any more details have leaked out.

Yeah I have done some reading up on the new cpu architecture and a little about the x58 boards but thats the first pics I have seen of them. it all looks really promising. I have been trying to get as much info as I can since this will probally be the platform I get now instead. I just don't see the point in getting a socket on it's way out the door when building a new rig so close to Nehalems release. I know core 2 duo's a socket 775 boards will be around for awhile but will start phasing out.

I really like that most of the boards pictured did away with the crazy heatpipes. I suspect this is due to lower the power consumption. I really like the Abit board pictured. I even read somewhere they will have a skulltrail version for Nahalem. I am also thinking that it may be beneficial to have memory with tighter timings verses higher freq sorta like the socket 939 AMD's were due to the integrated memory controller. Whatcha think?

Makes sence. The boards that I have read about are still very early and had memory problems so I'm not sure about memery numbers.

I think moving the memory controller will have the same effect it had for amd with the hammer. Amd might be in real trouble on this refresh if intel can turn these out in any real #'s and at a decent cost.

That would explain all your comments in the articles that come up in the search.  LOL.

thats not bad at all. oc that bad boy and have at it. ram will be a bit more pricey since you gotta get 3 sticks. hopefully the mb's won't be 300-400 range.

What he said!

I need to build a new system in the near future. If the cpu's start at that price-point it will be a no brainer (well... except for AMD getting 'brained').
