I am building a new system. The last time I used my floppy disk drive was back in the 1980s I think!

Do I need to have one there - will the system work just fine without it?

Thanks!

your system will be fine without it as long as you have a CD that'll let you boot to the DOS prompt.

i use a WindowsME boot CD for that. i took out my floppy drive months ago and haven't found the need for it yet! rip that sucker out! it's just wasting power.

I haven't had one for a couple months now. I'll probably put mine back in, if only because some of my systems don't have ZIP drives and once every 4 months or so I need to use a floppy. I took mine out because I needed to use a 5.25" floppy for a while to transfer all my old data, and I never bothered putting it back in.

I've not had a floppy drive in years.

No need anymore.

Every system I build I put in a floppy. I'll agree, I haven't used mine for months. Other's I build for use them almost daily. I believe it's better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.

As long as the FDD channel is there, someone needs to design a new use for it.

I agree with Ramman. I hate the floppy. I never use it. But one day.... I might need it.... and when that day comes, I'll be glad I spent the ~$10 on it.
