I see all these graphics cards like the GTX 1080's have dual cooling fans on them, I was wondering what happens if one or both fans should malfunction to seize does that burn up the GPU? Anyone had to go through that yet?

My assumption is the card would shut down... or die. Either way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So the card would shutdown to prevent overheating, that's good to know, anyone else want to weigh in on this, anyone?

I had a zotac graphics card with a built-in fan (about 3 years ago) in which the fan died but the card kept working. It would screech like crazy and get really hot. I tried to RMA it but I lost the receipt, I asked to buy just a fan replacement but they didn't sell them. So I was SOL. As for the new cards, I'm not sure if they shut down or not. Keep your receipts!

Yep I was going to say the same thing, the sound of crickets if no one responded, let's give it time.

I recall having problems with some old ATI (yeah pre AMD cards) The small and whiny loud fans died and I had to dump the cards as they were out of warranty. On one I got creative and replaced the heatsink and fan with something I attached to the card with zipties (not recommended with modern cards). I also had a Radeon HD 3650 that had its fan die under warranty (Sapphire handed the RMA quickly).

For what its worth i like what XFX is doing with its Radeon RX 470/480 cards. they sell replacements fans for them for like $20 and the current ones you snap off and you can put the replacements in their place without any tools, there's just a clip holding the fan in flace and making electrical contact.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know the fans were replaceable so that's good to know.

Throughout the years, never had issues with reference model fans. They usually last the lifetime of the graphics card.
