How i apply new thermal paste on my processor

Well, don't do that. If I remember right, usually recommended is put a pea sized or a little bigger sized of thermal paste drop in the center of the CPU, it will smush out when you put the heatsink or liquid cooling bit on it.

oh god no!!! thats WAAAAAAY too much and it will lose the effectiveness.. making it actually run hotter!

Blackhawk is correct. I pea size (max)... even a grain of rice size is good. The point of thermal paste is to fill in the imperfections on the CPU "lid" and the base of the cooler... creating a perfect flat surface between the 2 parts. Put the small dab on, then press the cooler into place. give the cooler a small twist back and forth to spread the paste more, then secure firmly into place.

You can put that much, but only if your goal is to fry your board. If you put a pea size, and it goes a little out, use a tissue to wipe it up GENTLY.

I hate to say it, but Blackhawk is actually right for once lol That is way too much!

You just need to put a little dot of paste in the center and when you put the heat sink on it will spread.

The more obsessive will use a plastic card to spread the paste evenly over the surface before putting the heat sink on.

LOL!! That article is HARDLY scientific!

They should have redone the test MULTIPLE TIMES with each technique and checked for averages.

Other uncontrollable factors that will affect that outcome are inconsistencies in the paste itself, the placement and the removal of the heat sink, and the surface of the heat sink itself.

Also notice the difference in the amount of paste used on the X in that article vs the amount used in your pictures!

You used WAY too much! You need to take your heat sink off and make sure you didn't have any s[censored]over!

No ag, just no. They did smaller than a pea sized like they should. Generally you would also want to spread it out, like acar said, with a plastic card.

Also take note that the dot in the middle method that EVERYONE here just recommended to you was within .5 C in testing compared to the X. Which to me is within margin of error from ambient temperatures.

So, short story, is that it doesn't really matter what pattern you use, or if you get a perfectly even spread... just that you get some paste on there, and not SO MUCH that it is s[censored]ing onto the cpu socket and the MB.

A little thermal throttling can be handled if you don't fry your parts

ok. i checked and re-apply thermal paste from x-shape to pea-shape (click and browse the link)

the x-shape was messy but with pea-shape temperatures were higher. upon booting up it's already above 40 degrees and during playing dota 2 highest was 67 degrees

i was able to use my pc for a couple of days without problems with the x-shaped

Use pea shaped, and use a flat edged plastic card(Old credit Card perhaps? Old plastic name badge?) to smooth it out completely covering the CPU, as to remove the microscopic gap between the cooling unit and the CPU.

Its like spreading jelly on toast, spread it all over the CPU, but don't let any slop over, wipe up any excess.

1) thats still WAY too much.

2) you are doing this with the stock cooler?? I hate to say it but you shouldnt... the stock cooler comes with paste pre-applied (as you can see here)
