Large size smartphones are all the rage these days. Heck, even Apple went big with its recently launched 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus devices, though both sport smaller displays than Samsung's Galaxy Mega 2, which is scheduled to land on AT&T later this week (Friday, October 24, 2014) with various pricing options.

First let's cover the specs. The Galaxy Mega 2 totes a 6-inch 720p HD (1280x720) display powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM. It also features 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 2,800mAh lithium-ion battery that's removable, and Android 4.4 KitKat.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2

You'll be able to purchase the Galaxy Mega 2 this Friday at AT&T, both online and in stores, for $19.80 per month with Next 18, $23.75 per month with Next 12, or $149.99 with a two year service agreement. Alternately, you can purchase the device outright and with no annual contract for $474.99.

Should you go with one of the Next plans, AT&T will give you a $100 bill credit when you activate a new or existing line of the service, the wireless carrier announced in a blog post.

As big as the Galaxy Mega 2 is, it's not quite as large as the original, which won a bit of fame for saving a person's life by taking a bullet. A main in Taiwan was shot in the chest during an altercation at a bar over a missing wallet. A person name Han found the missing wallet outside on the street, picked it up, and joked "Free beer!" Xu, the wallet's owner, didn't appreciate the jest and ultimately ended up shooting Han. The bullet went into the Galaxy Mega rather than Han's chest.

Low-spec with a bad screen. Hopefully it's as cheap as the specs suggest.

Andrew: why do you have to hope when the prices are in the article? It seems to be priced midrange.

Clearly it is a midrange device, not on par with the Note series. The Mega gives you a large screen without the premium price for those who do not care about performance or screen resolution but do care about screen real-estate.
