I'm looking to build a new gaming rig and have got all other parts in mind for a rig that will last me a while. The only thing I can't make my mind up on is a processor. While the i7 is a little bit faster its also around £50 more than the i5. Is there any advantage to getting an i7 over the i5 when I'm going to over clock it anyway?

well I know 3DMark11 is the best real world test.. but the i7 will pull about 700 more points out over the i5.... and, if you are OC'ing.. that gap will close.
My advice... if you have an extra £50 laying around, go for it (since it is more powerful and you can OC that one too) otherwise... save the money or put it towards one more step up in the GPU.
Whats the full build parts list looking like?
GPU will be nvidia 780ti
120ssd for windows etc
2tb hard drive
Asrock motherboard, not decided which one ATM
And for cooling I'm looking at various water cooling systems
The i5 isn't multi-threaded like the i7 is. But it is a good performer, and will run almost anything at speeds most satisfying. If the extra money is any kind of hardship, you will be happy with the i5 part.
Think I'll get the i7 just because of the fact I won't need to worry about a new processor for a long while. Just got to wait till payday now, thanks for commenting :)
Yep, if you have the extra cash.. go for it. You will be able to s[censored]ze more time out of it!
Next...post pics of the build! :)
Yes, Pics are always welcome.
It will be about a month or so before its all ready but I will do, need ideas to make it look cool now :)
