So many feels... :'(
Never cared for winamp.. back in the day used realplayer..
(And I feel like a schmuck for saying realplayer.....lol)
AOL killed winamp
It had a decent midi synthesizer, but they really lost a lot of functionality after Windows 98.
This is really sad. I guess iTunes played a big part in it but they never should have sold the company to AOL and should have pushed for better music stores to purchase tracks from.
I used the new version of winamp and i has a lot of neat features like automatic track naming and stuff and even purchased some songs from the store that was linked to it at the time.
I was a user of winamp up to Windows XP. There wasn't an equal program to it. I'm willing to bet this article will cause quite a few people to download it before it goes away for good.
Will probably become open source and live on...
WINAMP IS THE BEST
This sucks. To this day I still use Winamp. Sure, I have upgraded to a newer version with the Bento skin, but regardless. I still love it. I find it very upsetting that they are throwing in the towel.
I remember using it back "in the day". The end of an era...
Maybe we'll get a XMMS port for windows now.
NOOOOOOO WHY LORD WHY!!!!! I have been using Winamp since 1998!!! And I still use it until today!!!! Sure it's gotten bloated over the years but you can still run the modern version in classic mode and disable all the extras including new skins and it works like the original! I've never been into fubar even back in the day, and I would never use windows media player or itunes to actually play back audio files. Looks like I am going to have to add the current Winamp installation file to my software archive so I can continue to enjoy it for hopefully another decade and a half before something better might come out...
Everytime I tried using Winamp it was so unstable that it would just shutoff for no reason at times. Can't say I'll miss it much.
