Nothing ruins the wireless party quicker than a Wi-Fi dead spot, those annoying nooks and crannies that, for one reason or another, can't seem to hold a wireless signal. Netgear wants to help you eliminate those dead spots with its new Wi-Fi Booster for Mobile (WN1000RP), a compact device that amplifies an existing wireless signal for superior coverage throughout your home.

"Consumers today want the best connected experience, complete with the ability to enjoy online entertainment on their Wi-Fi connected mobile devices throughout the home," said Damir Skripic, product line manager for connected entertainment at Netgear. "The Netgear WiFi Booster for Mobile enables this experience by significantly increasing Wi-Fi coverage in the home, which is ideal for roaming iPads, iPhones, Android tablets, Kindle e-readers, smartphones or any other mobile WiFi devices."

It does this by repeating the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal from existing routers and gateways (yay!), though it doesn't touch the 5GHz band (boo!). Netgear's device simply plugs into an available wall outlet and sports a Push 'n' Connect (WPS) feature, so setup should be quick and easy. It works with Wi-Fi signals from any existing router and supports popular security standards such as WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, mixed mode, and WEP.

Netgear's Wi-Fi Booster for Mobile will be available later this summer starting at $40.

How is this different from their WN3000RP version? Information seems really sketchy on how you'd configure it with your access keys as well. Does anyone know much more about these?
