I just went to a site to lookup the location of an IP address that viewed my website and the site wanted me to download free software that hides your IP address. I clicked Cancel as I wasn't interested but now I notice I have InstallShield on my PC.
Is this linked or just a coincidence?
I googled InstallShield and it doesn't seem sinister but I was unimpressed that it downloaded itself and isn't listed in Add/Remove programs.
It also messed my System Tray icons up, that show without having to click on the 'Show Hidden Icons' arrow. My Antivirus doesn't show automatically anymore.
Where did InstallShield come from?
Should I delete it ?
And why does it install itself so sneakily?

Installshield is a deployment tool used to install various software titles. It most likely got installed in the past when you installed a program. I would find it odd if you didn't have an Installshield component on your system since it is a very popular and widely used deployment program. It's not in add remove programs because it is a component of another installer, not a stand alone application. I have an Installshield folder too, it's nothing to worry about.
