I picked up this Mac Mini at a yard sale (owner said it stopped working and turned out to just be unplugged cable from the board lol) and I was just wondering if anyone knew whether or not it has AHCI support for an SSD drive, and if it supports 1TB+ hard drives? The guy who had it upgraded it to 2GB DDR2 woot! here is a link with the sepcs.

Currently running Windows 7 and arch linux dual boot on it.

Thank you!

You could use a SATA SSD and it would work but there is no trim support in the versions of OS X that you can run on that machine. Apple stopped supporting the versions of OS X you can run on it years ago.

First off, GG on the find, I have never even seen a Mac at a yard sale as of yet. This is I believe the same Mac Mini we have so it would be great if we could use a SSD, we can't go beyond OS 10.6 Snow Leapord so if that supports it then I guess it will work? I take it SSD can't be connected VIA USB to a machine like this?

If you connect an SSD via USB it will treat it as a removable drive so TRIM support shouldn't matter as long as you unmount the drive before disconnecting it.

So in other words if you unmount like you would a regular USB HDD, it will work just fine?

Thanks for the replies. Also I'm actually running Windows 7 on my Mac Mini and using it as a storage backup atm. Might dual boot arch Linux later on. I probably won't bother with OS X though. I will probably try out one of my ssd's from my raid setup once I replace it with an Intel 750 ssd.

@Ghetto You could theoretically use it as a home NAS 😛
