Is there truly a problem in the design of the iPhone 6 Plus that makes it prone to bending and warping? If you ask that question to Foxconn CEO Terry Gou, he'll tell you quite emphatically that not only is the whole "bendgate" thing being blown way out of proportion, but that rival phone makers who stand to gain from Apple's negative publicity are the ones spreading the FUD.

"This was all caused by distortions from competitors. Don't blindly listen to it," Gou said in a Chinese-language news video posted to YouTube (we're trusting PCWorld's translation on this one).


Foxconn has a vested interest in the success of the iPhone, as it's the primary manufacturer of Apple's handsets. However, the company isn't necessarily wrong. Samsung has been all-too-happy to poke fun at Apple's media misfortune, while at the same time giving customers an inside look at its operations and how it tests for ruggedness. The sometimes subtle implication of Samsung's videos is that you don't have to worry about the structure of its Galaxy handsets like you do with the iPhone 6 Plus.

T-Mobile chief John Legere, another fellow who has a vested interest in the iPhone's success, also spoke publicly about bendgate, though his defense of the iPhone 6 Plus was perhaps more candid and laced with profanity.

So, what's the real deal? We'll have a review of the iPhone 6 Plus posted soon, but in the meantime, we can you tell that the supposed bending issue does seem a bit overblown. We can see how it might become warped if sitting on the device with a pair of skinny jeans, but for the most part, it shouldn't be an issue based on our hands-on testing.
