The suits on Wall Street took notice of rumors that Electronic Arts had put a freeze on DICE from working on future projects such as Star Wars: Battlefront and a new Mirror's Edge title due to ongoing problems with Battlefield 4. EA shares dipped more than 8 percent as reports of halted production pranced through cyberspace.

In a statement to Polygon, an EA spokesperson earlier this week acknowledged that there's much work to be done to fix Battlefield 4's persistent problems.

"The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game. Since Battlefield 4 China Rising expansion pack was already in the final states of development by the time issues began with Battlefield 4, we decided to fulfill our promise to deliver it this week, but we're not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4," the spokesperson said. "We know many of our players are frustrated, and we feel their pain. We will not stop until this is right."


Players have complained of connectivity woes, overloaded servers, stability problems, and other issues that have marred the much hyped release. The technical difficulties apply to all platforms, including Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4 consoles. However, in a followup statement provided to GameSpot, EA says that upcoming titles will be released as scheduled.

"The work being done to stabilize Battlefield 4 does not impact our release schedule for future titles," representative said.

EA's stock has since bounced back up a bit, having gained 5.5 percent this morning to $22.17. Prior to its setback earlier this week, the company's stock was up over 50 percent on the year.
