What would have 3DFX released if they were never bought by Nvidia? I know there were a few things saying that a chip called rampage would have been the next card. Reports said it would of had 500 mhz DDR and a 250mhz clock core. It also was going to be DX8 compliant and bring all the next gen effects along with T buffer. If it would have come out the same time as the Geforce 3, and it would have mauled it. what would of really happened?

Well Yeah There would be 3 Major Competitors..

3Dfx, ATI and Nvidia.. Products, and Prices would have been better for us.. as well as more technology..

3Dfx was a very good company.. revolutionary 3d Graphics etc..

It was a sad day when it was officially announced that 3dfx was no-more..

Anyways When Nvidia bought 3Dfx they accquired some of their projects infos etc... Nvidia could use that to take advantage..

Anyways

The Rampage Card was gonna be a killer .. Programmable TnL etc etc... also SLI was something good, which could have been used to make even more powerfull cards

I have a Voodoo4 4500 32MB and it works better than NV GF2 MX400 64MB

I'm having troubles with the drivers though

hehe Not for long

I like the thread title, Thnx BZKT. Speaking of 3DFX. Just in case U U ppl still don't know: The NV30 = GeForce + 3dFX = GeForce FX.
It takes nVidia almost 2 yrs to perfect the Rampage memory technology and incorporate it into their next generation vid.

Watch the "GeForce FX Launch Event Reply" at nvidia.com's GeForce FX site. Move to about 24:39 and watch the GeForce and 3dfx logos merge to form GeForce FX. Amazing. The legend's dead, but it's spirit stays. Start Saving your dough BB.

I found www.voodoofiles.com  to be a great site for drivers for my voodoo 4.
XP wouldn't work with games until I got drivers for it there.

I have a voodoo3 3000 in my old system. It was a good card, but 3dfx support started getting pretty sparse with newer technologies.

If i recall the Geforce FX uses a slightly updated LSMA II but it does have 1GHz memory to back it lol.

As well as a possible 500 Mhz core and the possiblility of 256 MB of memory. Strange, because nobody's really released any games that can really take advantage of 128 MB, much less 256.
