Crucial announced the availability of the Crucial m4 mSATA Solid State Drive (SSD) for ultrabooks. This SSD is one- eighth the size, making it ideal for systems where space is a premium. This drive offers sequential read speeds up to 500MB per second. It can be used as a standalone SSD or as a cache for an existing drive. Thanks to its thin mSATA form factor, the drive can be mounted directly to mSATA-enabled motherboards. Some desktop motherboards have a slot on them for these mSATA drives.

Has anybody tried one of them out to see how speedy they are?

This idea intrigues me.

As a boot drive, they arnt anything special when compared to stand alone SSDs on the market. However, as a caching drive, I think they are great, gives a nice boost to the storage drive. Ive also set one up for someone as a rendering/scratch drive (board had the slot when purchased though msata ssd was added later).
