Hey folks, upgrading my pc and I've decided to get either a GeForce 3 Ti200 with 128MB RAM or a GeForce 4 Ti4200 with 64MB RAM.

Which would you guys choose, newer chipset or more RAM?

My decision also relies on the fact that I don't want to upgrade for another year or two.

Another question I have is if Gainward video cards are any better than the other brand video cards that you would spend 20 bucks more for a Gainward video card?

And does anybody know if Chaintech video cards suck or not?

Your input is much appreciated.

Get the GeForce 4, very big difference. But like Punisher said. just make sure you only by the Titanium versions though. As for Chaintech, I have a Chaintech Ti4600 and it runs great. They're all basically the same crap, just buy whichever one you like.

Aren't all the Ti4200 models exactly the same? Spec-wise that is.

That's a video card myth  I like Abit much more. Also i found that ASUS was also factory overclocked.

well ... it's not a myth ... gainward is a top brand, at least one of the top ones on par with asus, leadtek, creative

I heard Gainward's video cards use better memory, which will help when I overclock the sucker.

How much of an increase in performance are we talking about with the different chipsets?

Gainward made an exellent reputation with their outstanding GF3, but for the GF4, there as good as the rest

the difference between the differnt brand is really neglectable (within 1-3%). There is more differnce in wether you get a good sample or an even better sample. Check some reviews, obviously there is no absolute ranking. Choose based upon price and software that comes with it. For me that would be MSI

I know the ASUS V8440 is overclocked by 2Mhz 275/552 but the Ti4600 is sligtly underclocked 300/648 while the MSI & Creative card is overclocked 300/660.
