On my Mum's Laptop (her work one), the taskbar doesn't work properly. When she minimises a window, it just disappears, and when you open a window or multiple windows, there is no icon to click for that window/s when in the taskbar.
Is there any way to fix this? I've tried fixing it, and she doesn't know what she did that might have caused it.
Feel free to ask for clarification of the issue.
Thanks in advance for your great help!
Is the whole taskbar gone or just the icons? Is ever on vanishing or just some?
Mother's aren't typically gamers... have you considered Linux?
No... actually, I'm not.
Oh wait... you said "work"... I'll bet they require Windows.... so here goes: What happens when you right click and uncheck "lock the taskbar"?
Of course I'm guessing that the application portion got s[censored]zed down to nothing.
Now, try to get "Lock The Taskbar" out of our head while humming "Rock The Casbah" by the Clash.
My work here is done.
The taskbar is there, but when a window is opened, no rectangular box thing appears for that window/s. Do you get what I mean?
@ 3vi1, I tried unlocking the taskbar and scrollin up, still nothing.
For example the desktop will look like this with a window open.
K. right-click on the unlocked taskbar. What is and is not enabled? I think we're close. :)
I notice all of your quicklaunch apps aren' t showing.... what happens when you drag that further right? I'm just wondering if some other section is occupying all of the task bar.
What do you think happedned 3vi1?
Shes apparently 'busy' at the moment, so I'll have to wait a while before I can check. [:@]
Her Quick Launch icons don't have an arrow next to them. I used the main PC totake tha pic, as she was using the laptop.
My main "idea" is that the running apps section didn't disappear.... it's just been resized or displaced out of view. I could be wrong (odder bugs have appeared)... but that is my strong feeling at this point.
Try number 240 (tweaks page) from HERE
Not to sound idiotic, but has she restarted? I had this happen once on my brother's PC, a simple reboot fixed everything.
have you tried ending the 'explorer.exe' process from the task manager?
then restarting it by going to file, new task
then the dir:
seems to work for most problems like these, my friend had a problem like yours, just restarted the task and all was well.
hope this helps =)
riks you can also click new task and then just type "explorer.exe" does the same thing.
Tanka, did this every get fixed? What was the fix?
well i like doing things the hard way [H]
Sorry to keep you waiting. I haven't fixed it yet as she's getting a new laptop soon, so there's not much point. I'll try your way Riks and see what happens.
Thanks for all your help!
Thanx very much, that worked for me
