The smp is for cpu's and the gpu client for you nvidia or ati based video cards both can be found here. I point it out only because i'm a little confused at what you had typed. Let me know if there's anything i can help ya out with, but be sure to read the installation instructions as the new how to covers most every thing. I can fill in any blanks ya might have.

wait are you trying to runn the GPU client and the cpu client? is that possible? doesnt the GPU client jsut make the proteins u see on the screen look better? or do they use the GPU instead of the CPU?

They use the gpu and you would get a lot of points from your 8800gt

Oh good, I've been using my 8800 Gt. Imagine a 3 way  SLI 280 GTX folding

You can run the cpu and gpu at the same time. you just have to make sure to set the gpu client to slightly high cpu priority. Gpus score some magor points, but the SMP cpu client posts a lot of points as well.

I'm very surprised there's no GPU client for Linux.  :(

Some are using wine and the gpu2 client with some success. You might give it a go

They seem to be having some luck over here.
