I have read reviews of a program called nLite ($Free) . My understanding is this. 

It's a program that allows you to custom install XP removing features and components you don't want/need such as Media Player, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, MSN Explorer, Messenger etc. It can also allow for an unattended XP installation. There is a version available for Vista too!

You can unistall that stuff yourself why would you need something like this?

 Thats an excellent question Nelson, on re-reading my post I come across as very vague to the benefits of the program and to exactly what it is.

You can cut the size of your XP install disk in half, and the time it takes to install. Basically what it does is give you almost complete control of your XP installation. It's not really a tool for deleting programs. It can also install programs during the XP installation. Firefox, anti-virus/malware, whatever else etc..

It's completely automated, so when done right you stick the disk in the drive and go do whatever. I can understand what it sounds like though. I would lump it in with that group of programs that have that "Not something I really need" thing about them. However, like Quicksilver on mac, which is just an application launcher but absolutely essential to any mac user in my opinion.

 when you get a new computer/notebook it takes about 5 min to set up and about 2hrs getting rid of all the crap on it...lol

Exactly! This is great for the person who builds a lot of computers. Met a guy at Frys who built a lot of Shuttle computers for other people. Not sure if it is a small company of his or he just does it on the side for friends. It is also nice so you don't shove all the bloatware to your customers.

been using nlite for awhile, i removed all the extra bloat and streamlined the process of clean installs it quite handy, i thought every body knew about nlite.

I heard of something like this before. It is very cool, although I don't really mind what gets installed on a fresh copy of XP or Vista in my computer. Just knowing that it is completely clean of problems and all that makes me happy.

I've used nlite/vlite for years. It makes it damn easy to make an unattended installation as well as slipstreaming hotfixes and service packs into your XP installation. You can also add drivers as well. Removing features is nice too. Combine nlite with xppowerpacker and you can make a multiboot xp cd with multiple versions. I compiled one for my old job once and too my knowledge, they still use the disk I made about a year ago.

NOTE: nlite/vlite only modify the ISO image of your windows installation. So it does not modify it after you install. It would be wise to test your modified ISO in a virtual machine using vmware or virtual pc before you deploy it to your system. Use it at your own risk!
