Hi I've just upgraded my 1gig DDR400 ram (2x512 PC3200) with another 1gig (Kingston 1gig PC3200). Now I think I've realised my mistake unless I haven't made one, but dual channel has been disabled etc with an actual performance reduction in regards to games. I'm still not one hundred percent sure if there has been any boost and would just like some clarification on what I've done. Thanx

My System

P4 2.8Ghz
Intel Canterwood i875P
2gig DDR400
ATI X1950Pro AGP 256

If you are running 3 sticks of RAM then dual channel will likely of been disabled.

You would of been better off selling the 2x 512MB sticks and buying 2x 1GB sticks to make the 2GB.

OK thanx for the advice I'll try that! Any idea where the best place for selling old RAM might be? Guessing E-bay but would any retailer do a trade in maybe...

Forgot to add, is it normal to have performance degradation when not dual channeling EVEN when having twice more ram?

E-bay is the best for that probably.

Bump

I definitely have some loss in performance. Now considering getting another gig stick so that dual channel would be back up which would total me at 3gig. That is right isn't it? Having 2x512 and 2x1gig would enable duel channeling for increases performance?

thanx guys
