SO i tried this registry docotor thing since I'm no wiz and wouldn't screw with the registry myself but all's it does is tell me there i 89 errors all are invalid paths and it will take me to the file to manually change but I have no clue what to do with it. I'm thinking 89 errors is not good so any help here would be appreciated

Get CCleaner and use that..its much better and it does it all for you..even backing up the registry before making the changes.

Thanks. I have CCleaner and ran it after i installed the OS. I just did a fresh install not even a week ago which makes me wonder why I have so many errors. Hopefully when i get it all sorted out my pc will actually shut down instead of going into standby. If I recall i had the same problem on my last install but I don't remember how i fixed it.

What messes the registry up is the 69 freaking windows updates you install after XP SP2. I dont see why M$ dont release SP3 already.

yeah the funny thing is I couldn't even get all the updates to install. I kept getting errors on the installs for a handfull of them. I had less problems with the vista rc1 i was using for a bit.

Registry Mechanic is a good choice for Windows. It can safely clean and repair problems with your registry in a few simple mouse clicks.

Why not try it?
