I was looking at hard drives for my laptop, and if I replace the one that I have then I would like to put the old one into an external enclosure. The only problem is that the interface is ATA-6. I don't know if that is just a type of IDE or something. To be honest I'm not really familiar with laptop hard drives. I could only find a few external enclosures that said they supported ATA-6, but there a a lot that support IDE. Can I use a IDE internal interface external enclosure, or do I have to get one that supports ATA-6?

This is the one I'm interested in since it comes with a nifty docking bay stand.

Yeah but, on newegg they inly have 2 option for the search for internal connectors, IDE and SATA. But the type of drive that I will have is a ATA-6. So I'm wondering if I can use a IDE one, or do I have to get a special one that is ATA-6 compatible.

My question is could you put any size HDD into those HDD enclosures? cuz if you do I rather get one instead of a External HDD, since I still have my 120g, HDD from my desktop.

There are different size HDD enclosures. The one that I'm looking at is for a laptop HDD. But yes you can get a HDD enclosure for any size drive. In fact most External HDD's are just a HDD in a enclosure. You just have to make sure that the internal connector is the same as the HDD that you got. You probably got a IDE, and is if so I recommend these external enclosures.

ATA-6 IS IDE joe. As long as the enclosure doesnt say it's for SATA..then you are fine.
