If for some reason I have to turn off my computer rather than restart it, and then try to turn it back on afterwards within an hr or 2 it loads a black screen and starts beeping at me. Could this be caused by a hot harddrive? I remember it acting similarly when I accidently unplugged my harddrive.

Hmm... It could actually be a few things. Overheating is a possiblity. It could also be your OS. Possibly some sort of virus or error that when the screensaver/or screen goes dark it causes an error.

Give some more detail on how this happens and what kind of hardware/software you have running.

For example: Are you working on something on your computer such as typing a paper and then the screen just goes black? or Are you doing something else while you computer is mostly sitting and chilling with the screensaver on?

I thought I was kind of clear to begin with but ok... If I turn off my pc, and then try to turn it back on it wont start up and just starts beeping. It'll come back on normally after an hour or two though. It runs normally otherwise.

Anyone think this might be related to the harddrive? Assuming that it is is there anything i can do to fix it more permanent than putting a fan next to my pc?

What video card do you have?

And what makes you think your hard drive is getting too hot? Have you read temps on it?

Well like Sam, I have had the same thing happen to when my hd wasnt connected to my power supply so I thought the beeping would be related to a hard drive issue. Right now my hd is at 25C but thats with the panel off and a box fan blowing on it, usually its between 40 & 60C. ANd my graphics card is a geForce 6200.

What HDD do you have.

Try changing the PATA/SATA and power cables maybe they are damaged
