Dell Dimenion XPS550, Windows 98 SE.
D drive drawer keeps popping open when I attempt to close. Drive light is blinking as soon as I hit the button to close, whether or not a disk is in, it closes, but then pops right out again.

Any suggestions?

Manually push the cd tray back in. You might need to take the front bezel off of the cd drive and clean out where the button is, maybe something is jamming the button shut.

Thanks for your reply. I've tried pushing it in a couple of times, but it just pops out again. The light blinks as if some software program is waiting to use it. Could it be a software problem?

I'll take it apart as a last resort.

What do you use for a CD burning application? It may be that the program is trying to get a blank CD and when you keep putting in other CDs it keeps rejecting them.

Drive D is a CD-ROM drive. I have a CD burner using Drive E, which is working fine.
Tried a blank disk in D anyway, and it still won't stay closed. Maybe a hardware problem.

Sounds like the drive is just going bad. I'm guessing it's more than a few years old . I'd just pick up a new one. CD-ROM's are real cheap these days, under $20.
