About 3 days ago i noticed that when i'm on the internet that a noise sounding like somethin shut off and then turned back on would keep happening. During this time the internet would freeze for a few seconds and then start back up. Sometimes it would do this consistently and other times i could go hours without a peep. Then last night it was having this problem and went to a blue screen saying something about it was dumping physical memory or somethin along those lines. Then when i restarted it gets to the windows loading screen and then blue screens and restarts. I had this type of problem before except without the internet problem so i assume i must reformat!!! Is this correct and what was the interent problem? Urgent help paalease!

Sounds like a HD problem to me if you're hearning noises. What model is it? How many sticks of RAM do you have? I you have more than one try running each in Slot 1 on it's own.

I'm running two sticks of 512 ram ddr333. My HD is an 80gb maxtor, not sure of exact model i'd have to check. Will it matter if i run only one since i can't even get it to boot up?

Well I mean try it with one stick then try with only the other. The reason I'm suggesting that is to check if it is one of the sticks of memory causing errors.

Maxtor should have a HD diagnosis utility on their site that should allow you to test the HD using a bootable floppy. If not try hooking up the HD to another system and using the Maxtor Windows diagnostic tool.
