Overclock that XP-M more(!) and add another 512MB RAM. What model is that Hitachi? Is it the old (IBM) GXP 60/120/180? If it's a GXP 60 gbet rid of it! Also, if that's an unbranded PSU I'd get a better one before going near a new graphics card.

i have got rid of the hitachi hard drive, now i have a 40 and a 20 gig. one is a maxtor, the other is samsung ... i think. i want to overclock the xp-m more, but i was unsure of how to do it safely. i'm definatley thinking of getting a new psu, as soon as i get paid, and the graphics card. 512 ram would be nice, but i dont want to go over board, im meant to be saving!! any other little tweaks would be appreciated, i.e, ram timings, and little things like that. cheers, sam

Was the Hitachi a GXP60? If not then it's fast and reliable, but the early GXP60s were awful for reliability.

Check this out. These guides should help you on the software side of tweaking more than on the hardware side. Remember, it takes both hardware and software to run a computer, so having the greatest hardware in the world will not help if you if your software (os) isnt tweaked as well.

i have just a standard q-tec 3ghz socket A heatsink, and fan, but then i have an additional 6 80mm case fans in there. at rest, im getting around the 30 degrees mark, and at load, it never goes higher than 45 degrees, so my temperatures are fine, no problems there. (i got one of them system exhaust thingys too, i heard they dont last too long, but i only paid a quid for it. does a good job anyhow!)

To overclock further set your VCore to 1.65V to start with, this is completely safe as they are built to run at 1.65V as they are regular Barton cores anyway.

Set your Multiplier to 11.5 and start with an FSB of 166MHz. This will give you 1.9GHz but the idea is you keep rasing the FSB in small steps and testing for stability at each stage. If you make it to 200MHz FSB then you will have 2.3GHz. If you safely make it to that and your temps remain good you can rasie the FSB past 200MHz in single stps only, and test for stability again at each step.

im on 170 x 11.5 atm, and it's all lookin good. i think thats about 1.95ghz. i'm gonna run ut2004, cause thats the most cpu intensive program i have installed at the moment, and i want to finish this tonight. i'll post again in a minute.

well u are slower than u where before 2ghz on a 400mhz bus is faster than 1.95 on a 340mhz bus.

here what i would do set your muilt to 8x200mhz.This way u will find your max fsb/mem speed. then after that i would put it to 11x200mhz that will give you 2.2ghz @1.65 volts then just start upping your fsb till u get to 2.3+ghz and if u find your chip can go more but your fsb is limiting u drop your fsb back to 200mhz and up the muilt some more like 11.5x200=2300mhz.

btw what is your chip rated voltage 1.45volts?

Not always strictly true. Some motherboards will perform better on different multipliers. My old Asus couldn't go much above 200MHz FSB on a 10 Multi but it would go to 229MHz FSB on an 11 Multi. I think the Abit NF7 boards don't like their 10.5 Multi if memory serves.
