my previous MOBO burned out after 2 1/2 years it was an asus a7v266-e and the shop recomends I get an a7v600-x which cost $66. My system consists of an athlon xp 1700 cpu, 256mb ddr ram in a ATX case. Is this board the best for the money or should I get something else.

What make? Is that Asus? I would recommend an nForce 2 board if you can find one for the same price. Make sure it's a good brand like Asus, Abit, Gigabye, MSI etc.

Well an nForce 2 board would be better. Asus are an excellent brand, some would say the best. Look out for the other brands I mentioned too along with Aopen, Shuttle, DFI.
