There are some games like U2K4 that I think have a 64 bit version but I think that's only for linux...the first wave of 64 bit titles hasn't really hit windows yet, mostly because we lack a 64 bit OS, and most of the drivers are really imature. Just like most brand new technologies whenever they come it, it's usually a "so-what" because the software doesn't catch up for a year or more in many, if not most cases.

P.S. I moved this to OS and sotware, but I left a link to get from processors over here.

Plus the 64bit drivers for videocards on WinXP and Linux are not very developed.

You can download the beta Windows XP 64-bit edition for AMD64 processors here http://www.microsoft.com/window.../evaluation/upgrade.mspx  no gurantees off performance or stablity so use at your own risk.

A bit ioff topic but I really think AMD promoting the Athlon 64 is exactly that was a marketing blunder. I dunno how many people think they don't need a 64-bit chip coz they don't have a 64-bit OS or software and that the P4 will be a better choice fro them.

I think they should have promoted it with it's main focusd being it is a great 32-bit chip then advertised it as a 64-bit CPU when the market was ready. Mentioning that it is 64-bit enaabled as probabaly the main selling point was thinking too far ahead IMO. Some of us see it as "htat will be handy in the future" others but most see it as a 64-bit CPu that is just 32-bit compatabble and nothing more.

i saw how the A64's were trouncing the pentiums left on right on a 32 bit .... i only thought of the possiblities of what a 64 bit os could do later....yay

Yeah that's what I was talking about. AMD pushed it too much as a 64-bit CPu so much that people often have the misconception that it requires a special OS.

The Athlon 64 runs great on standard XP home or Pro It will also run 64-bit OSes in the future but still perfrioams great with 32-bit code.

nope same old ZIF socket but different pin layout, it will only fit in the socket one way so no chances of getting it wrong.
