I would get a 2500+ barton if it was my case.
what do you need a gig of ram for? Maya or video editing?

i dont need that much RAM for any specific case, just to make my PC run better as i play loads of games and dl a lot of stuff. is a 2500+ barton better than a 2700+ thoroughbred or a 2800+? and is this on value or just performance?

I would go with the Barton core. Also make shure that your Mobo supports the new bus speed.

yup asus a7n8x supports all the way up to a barton 3000+ with a 400 FSB the 2800+ comes as a barton as well as a thoroughbred though doesnt it?

If you run your CPU at stock and can afford the 2800+ get it instead.

With the board you have definitely go with a new CPU..

However understand this, Windows' memory handling takes a leap when it has 1gb of RAM. It starts using it much more efficiently and does increase system performance considerably (even over 768mb of RAM). It doesn't just help with games and large appliactions

my fan, the coolermaster HAC-V81 x-dream is ok for the 2000+, but if i get the 2500+ or 2800+ what fan would be best? as if i crank up the speed of the fan i have it gets really loud. ive heard good reports on the Aero 7+ lite, but is it quiet?

Don't waste your money on anything higher then a barton 2500, Go to newegg.com pick one up for 85 bucks, go into the bios and change fsb to 200 and multiplier to 11. System now runs as an XP 3200. I have this in my system and temp didnt even go up 1 degrees.

I just got The Thermal Take Silent Boost Fan, It's good for up to an XP 3400. Right now its cooling my 2500 O'cd to 3200 and it idles around 38C and i've never even seen it go higher then 41C. Just make sure you can some arctic silver compound.

Yeh it's so easy to overclock the 2500 to 2800/3200 speeds. No the fan runs at 2450 rpm's constantly.
