I have an 80GB Maxtor Hard drive with XP Home Edition on it. I want to partition the hard drive with the and put the operating system on the 1st partition so it is easier to defrag. How do I go about this as I have already got the operating system on it?
How do you F Disc and Format XP as it does not have the DOS Prompt?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Just throw in a boot disk and go into dos and do a fdisk then a format and you'll be fine.

The easiest way is to probably start from scratch again.

If you can get a hold of patrtition magic 8 I recommend you use that. It's a great program for partitioning your drive and it's very easy to use.

Can I use a windows 98 boot disc and then format and partition from there and then install XP? Or do I need an XP Boot disc? Do I need partiton magic to partition the hard drive or can I do it withing the installation of xp?

i think you can use a 98 boot disc to get into dos and start the install by directing dos to ur cd drive. you can partition it with xp install. look carefully during when ur installing it has a part where it asks you if u want to partition.
