If you own a PlayStation 3 and are addicted to online gaming, it's time to fall in love with the PC all over again. Or read a book or do whatever it is you do when you're not tapping into the PlayStation Network (PSN). Sony is planning to perform some heavy duty maintenance on the PlayStation Network later today that will take the service offline for about 14 hours, and possibly longer.

"This significant PSN maintenance period is expected to start at just after noon Pacific and will last for several hours, until approximately 2am Pacific on Monday, March 5," Sony announced in a blog post. "Unlike typical maintenance events, consumers who are already signed-in to PSN will be signed-out, and consumers will be unable to sign in for the duration of the maintenance window. During this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online. PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one."

Sony initially planned to perform the service upgrade on Thursday but ultimately decided to postpone it until Sunday (today) for reasons unknown. That's the bad news. The good news? The service isn't being hacked, it's just down for maintenance.

For you Twitter junkies out there, Sony says it will post a tweet the moment PSN is back online via its @PlayStation Twitter account.

Well PSN is down again. Hey Sony, how about doing the maintance on a monday-friday at like 9am. Seems that would make more since. Think about it, people are at work and kids are in school( in the USA) that is. You know we pay a lot of money for the system platform and the games. Some of us adults like to play online. You know when were not working!!!! sat. thru sun. I feel I do have a [censored] about you doing this during prime play time because i pay for the platinum service. Are you going to reimburse us for the time not able to play??????? or access the server.

They sure are doing a lot of lengthy maintenance lately. And it seems just about every time I turn my system on there's a notification for an available update. What is going on over there?

hey man you dont have to pay it is free plus you get alot of extras that i dont but at least you dont have to pay and they chose a sunday yeah it sucks but it would suck for a number of people regardless of the day. you have kids forreal stop complaining im 19 years old yeah its nice to sit down after workin all week and pwn noobs on mw3 or whatever but forreal psn is FREE and id rather go a few hours of no online and it be free then have microsoft butt f*** mad money outta me and have maintenence on live.... and manduh theres been 2 updates for the ps3 in the past few months one was for that ps vita handheld so its capable which took what a minute to complete and install wow? and another for w.e they dont take long i start it go grab a drink and come back and its finishing up so stop crying for real and the game updates are to patch up the game make it faster less laggy fix map glitches w.e it all has a reason and if your gonna cry about not even a full day of no psn then please by all means go getta 360 pay for online, batteries, microsoft points, no internet browser, and RROD or laser burns on your discs (: i hope sony takes longer now just cos people cry....add me mikel3445 7th prestige mw3 all day....PS its good to have a game thats fun not online ex. RACING GAMES(GRAN TURISMO) RPG'S(FALLOUT,FINALFANTASY,COD ZOMBIES) also if you cant find anything else to do on your day off you shouldnt own a system getta life!!!

Get an Xbox 360. Live never gets shut down for maintenance, less game updates b.c, the updates include more patches, you can buy a recharge battery pack for your controller, controllers cost less, you don't have to worry about YLOD, you don't get laser burns in your discs you only get that when you shake your xbox violently which you shouldn't do with any console(it happens on the ps3 as well), yes you do have to pay for MS points but you have to pay for PSN points as well, and yes you have to pay for online but its only 50 bucks a year so if your paying for that psn plus crap it's the same thing.

Not everybody works Monday through Friday Jackass. Oh and it's free man, there are other things to do and weekends.

1. Read a book

2. I heard puzzles were all the rage back in the day so...

3. Make a fire. (Let it be know that I am not telling you to commit [censored]on nor do I support your decision if you decide to do so. I am referring to something like a BBQ grill or maybe a Bon fire.)

4. Make a bon fire

5. Cook BBQ

I have no idea; but I'm hoping that it's not the ghosts of the old bosses of Sony trying to take the company down under again.

PS PLUS is for discounts and we dont have psn points we have money, you don't even know what you are talking about... my brother had an xbox 360, he picked his console up to turn it to the side and guess what happened, so shut the hell up
