Corsair announced two new 16GB flash drives today. The new high-performance

16GB Flash Voyager GT uses specially selected, hand-screened MLC NAND flash

memory in a dual-channel configuration. Corsair combines this memory with a high-speed

controller IC in order to deliver rapid read and write speeds that are

significantly faster than most USB drives. The new 16GB Flash Voyager GT uses

Corsair’s water- and shock-resistant all-rubber casing.

Corsair also expanded its best-selling Flash Voyager Mini

product family with a new 16GB model. The latest Chip-on-board technology made

the increased capacity possible. With Chip-on-board technology, movies, music,

photos, and personal documents can be stored in a format that’s one-third the

size of a typical USB flash drive. The Flash Voyager Mini features a cap-less

retractable USB connector and a rubberized housing.

The full press release for both drives is below.

New duo of 16GB

drives designed for users who want high performance and high portability

Fremont, CA, April 30th, 2009 – Corsair, a worldwide

leader in high-performance computer and flash memory products, today announced

a new 16GB high-performance “GT” Flash Voyager USB drive. The new

MLC-based Corsair 16GB Flash Voyager GT has been designed to deliver

best-in-class performance for a high-capacity USB flash drive.

 “People expect

Corsair to deliver the highest performing products,” said Jim Carlton, VP of

Marketing at Corsair. “That’s why our latest Flash Voyager GT offers both

higher speeds and higher capacities than standard USB drives, making them ideal

for discerning customers for whom high performance is a key criteria” added

The new 16GB Flash Voyager GT uses specially-selected,

hand-screened MLC NAND flash memory in a dual-channel configuration, combined

with a high-speed controller IC to deliver rapid data reading and writing

speeds significantly faster than most USB flash drives. Whether you’re backing

up data or transporting office files, pictures, music or even full-length

movies, you can “store-and-go” faster with the 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager GT.

The new 16GB Flash Voyager GT also utilizes Corsair’s

proprietary water- and shock-resistant, all-rubber casing so that users with

busy and active lifestyles can be confident that their data is secure and

protected from damage. Independent reviews of Flash Voyager products have

demonstrated their ruggedness, durability, and reliability. Flash Voyager

drives have been laundered, baked, frozen, boiled, dropped, and even run over

by a SUV! After all the punishment they receive the drives continue to work.

Corsair also announced today that it is expanding its

best-selling Flash Voyager Mini product family with a new 16GB model. The

increased capacity is possible due to the latest Chip-on-board technology,

which allows for a huge number of movies, music, photos and personal documents

to be stored in a format that’s 1/3 the size of typical USB Flash drives.

The Flash Voyager Mini utilizes a cap-less retractable

USB connector, which easily opens with the flick of the thumb, and its

ergonomic rubberized housing makes it easy to connect and disconnect from any

computer. The rubberized housing is also durable, making it an ideal flash drive

for users with busy and active lifestyles.

“The 16GB Voyager Mini offers an outrageous amount of

storage in a format that’s both ultra-compact and rugged,” stated John Beekley,

VP of Applications at Corsair. “The 16GB Flash Voyager Mini is the perfect

synergy of size looks and function.”

Both the 16GB Flash Voyager GT and the 16GB Flash Voyager

Mini are available immediately from Corsair’s authorized distributors and

resellers worldwide. All Corsair flash products are backed by a 10-year Limited

Warranty. Complete customer support via telephone, email, forum and Tech

Support Xpress is also available. For more information on Corsair USB drives,

Cool... but what are the transfer speeds?

Probably decent.  If i recall correctly theyre usually on top of transfer speeds.  I've always wondered if these types of "rugged" sticks are actually waterproof.  I mean is the gap between the cap and the stick not a problem?
