Hi,

I'm trying to build an all around multimedia system on a budget, and I have it mostly completed. It's going to be for gaming, movies, music, but rarely ever work. I've already spent $800 on the processor, motherboard, video card, ram, case, replacement power supply, and a DVD drive. Now I have about $200 left and I don't know what sound card to buy.

I found some good deals on the soundblaster audigy 2 platinum with 6.1 surround on ebay (I need platinum because I would also like to plug my guitar right in to the front audio panel and record). But I also need some speakers and there is an awesome set of 7.1 surround sound speakers with 7 sattelites and a subwoofer, except, hey! The card I want is 6.1! So If I want 7.1 I gotta pay for the soundblaster audigy 2 ZS platinum which is like a hundred dollars more!

Should I stick with the 6.1 surround and save $100 or should I take that step in to 7.1? Is 7.1 really that much better than 6.1? Any advice is welcome.

Thanks.

I would juet get the Aud 2 plat. Nothing has a 6.1 soundtrack these days anyway! All the current Movies are 6.1 and I think few DVDs or gamesa are 7.1.

Yeah, I think i'm gonna just go for the 6.1, the card and the speakers got great reviews, and they are very cheap.

What speakers are they? You'll find it hard to best the Logitech Z680's if you hasve the money.

If you're spending that much on a system for that kind of thing and that much on an sound card then you might want to get better speakers to really show them off. In the reviewq they take budget into account so they will do well for speakers up to $100 but compare them to the Z680s n they'll get blown away. Or even better if you have a hifi you can hook the PC up to it for music.

Well I tried to build a PC for under $1000 Canadian, and im att 800 right now, and I can get the audigy 2 platinum for roughly $100 on ebay, and that leaves me with $100 left, so If I had another $200, or I found a great deal then I'd buy the z680's.
